At first, the September garden is a continuation of the very productive month that proceeds it. Temperatures remain in the summery 80s (with a handful of 90s), and lots of daylight keeps the harvest humming. But by the third week of the month, it's clear fall is moving in. Days get noticeably shorter and the heat moderates. By the autumn equinox, on September 23 this year, our yields were noticeably smaller, falling from a seasonal high of 193 pounds in August to 102.5 in September. Now it's time to celebrate at the Harvest Festival!
HARVESTED September 1: 29.5 lbs
September 8: 12.75 lbs
September 15: 36.25 lbs
September 22: 4 lbs
September 29: 20 lbs
TOTAL: 102.5 lbs
