Spring Adult Forum
Wednesdays, May 7–June 11, 7-8:15 p.m., in the Parish Hall
Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church
Our last Adult Forum of the program year will be a set of video discussion sessions. The short video
segments feature N. T. Wright, former Bishop of Durham in the Church of England, one of the
leading New Testament scholars of the late 20th/early 21st centuries.
Wright has taught New Testament and early Christian studies at Oxford, McGill, and St. Andrew’s Universities,
and is a prolific author, writing both for academics and for lay people.
Those who attended Father Gregg’s sessions during Lent will find this a fascinating series, building
on several of the ideas he shared. What kind of hope does Christianity hold out for the world? How
do we live out God’s kingdom “on earth as in heaven”?
A participant’s guide is available for $8.00. Please sign up in the Gathering Space or contact Jim
Hoover (jimhoover@stanfordalumni.org).
Women’s Bible Study
Women’s Bible Study meets at 9: 30 a.m. Thursdays in the Phil Room. This season, Deacon Tara Osborne will lead a study on the Gospel of John. All women are welcome. If you need a ride please contact Diane Sellinger. If you have any questions, please contact Wendee Greene at wendeegreene75@gmail.com.
Centering Prayer
Centering Prayer is a form of Christian silent prayer and meditation that can more deeply center us in the life of faith. Each session opens with the lectio--a Bible verse--which participants are invited to reflect on and discuss. A 20-minute period of contemplative prayer follows. The group meets for an hour beginning at 7 p.m. Tuesday via Zoom. All are welcome.
